Shockwave therapy cost and what ACC covers
One of the first things people want to know is what shockwave therapy will cost and whether ACC pays for it. Here is the straight answer, with the numbers laid out so there are no surprises when you arrive.
How shockwave is charged
Shockwave is included in your physiotherapy appointment, not charged as a separate add-on. You pay one fee for the appointment, with the shockwave part of it. Your first appointment is 40 minutes; if you need a course of treatment, a 4-session concession pack of 30-minute appointments brings the per-session cost down.
What ACC covers
If your problem is an ACC injury, ACC part-funds your appointment, which is why the ACC initial fee is lower than the private one. We register and manage the ACC claim for you, so all you need to do is turn up. If you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim your appointment under your policy.
How many sessions you are likely to need
Most people need a course of treatment rather than a single session, because the tendon or tissue needs time to repair. We will give you a realistic estimate after assessing you, so you can weigh up whether a pre-paid package makes sense for your situation before you commit to it.
